Jackson Mayor Martin Griffin continues to oppose the addition of firefighters with the help of a $1.9 million, two year grant. Griffin told WKHM he is disappointed with new information recently from the federal government.
Griffin said even if the city did receive the $1.9 million grant money it would still cost the city more money in the long run to hire 9 more firefighters. Additionally in two years the city would face more grief having to layoff those firefighters.
The Mayor says the city needs to watch every penny.
